Image
Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum Thursday 29 th  July 11.00am – 4.00pm Those attending were spoilt for choice of painting and sketching subjects here, inside and out: the steam powered brickmaking machinery, the large collection of chimney pots and tiles, the Penny Arcade. Southampton & District Transport & Heritage Trust are based here with their collection of buses. Before we started, some of us enjoyed  tea / coffee cakes at Wonderberry’s Café, now open seven days a week.   More information about the collections and the full history of brickmaking at Bursledon is on the Museum’s  website https://thebrickworksmuseum.org/ One of our members, Steve Whitehead is a resident artist at the Museum, with work for sale in their shop. 2021 is the 150th anniversary of the consecration of St. Mary's Church Warsash, nextdoor to the hall where Warsash Art Group normally meet for first Thursday evening artist demonstrations and Tuesday classes.  Revd Nicky-Sue Terry, the joint vicar at St. Mary’s Warsash , has been delighted with the response from our members to paint and draw the church during this anniversary year. Some of us sketched in the churchyard in April and May. The front cover of the July edition of the   Warsash Parish News    featured the wonderful drawing Tina Shaw produced from her sketches; and August's cover has Joan Lee's mixed media painting of the cast iron lampost and lych gate (left), built up from her sketch in the churchyard. Printed copies of Warsash Parish News are available from Warsash One Stop-cum-Post Office for 45p each they and can  be downloaded from the St. Mary’s website if you register: https://www.stmarywarsash.org.uk/parish-news/ There will be a flower festival in the chu

Lee-on-the-Solent - 8th July Audrey Sawdon -   sketched the views of town houses and shops along Marine Parade West Linda Amor -  Linda organised this meet-up and stayed for several hours sketching beach huts among other things Joan Lee did two sketches looking across the Solent to yacht racing off Cowes and the view towards the (still standing) landmark chimney at Fawley Power Station. These filled four 15cm x 21cm (A5) sheets of her homemade concertina sketchbook which folds away nicely for lightweight portability on a bicycle.
